It had been a while since my wife and I have gotten wet, so we took the express out to Avalon. We were a little worried because I guess there had been some storms out there recently. But we had a lovely surprise of some wonderful diving on Friday. Here is a quick link to some video Diving 7 11 14 mov - YouTube. I apologize to Ken Curtis and Max Bottom time for the amateurishness of the video, I will get better I promise.

The surge from the storm off Mexico really destroyed diving conditions last weekend, but things started clearing up pretty well starting Tuesday. I was out on a giant sea bass recon with a group from Cal State Northridge and we had excellent conditions at Blue Car Wreck down the coast but somewhat mediocre conditions up the coast at Twin Rocks. A total of 34 giant sea bass were spotted at three sites though.

What were the temps? Going to Casino Point in 2 weeks, depending on water temp.

Water temp can fluctuate over a two week period, but surface temps have been reported as high as 73-74 F

Ha, I used to dive a 3mm shortie in the summer... until I started filming and noticed the camera shake!

Hell, at those temps, might as well dive with a 3-mil wetsuit.

I'll be at the dive park this weekend...good to hear that it's cleared up! And that it's warm. I detest diving with a hood, so when the water is this warm I can dive without it. Yay!

Dr. Bill have you seen any GSBs in the park lately?

I haven't done a dive in the park since early June... was in the Dutch Antilles for a few weeks, then editing the footage from there for two weeks.

I did dive last weekend and the group saw a total of 34 giant sea bass at three different dive sites but all were well away from the dive park.

I need to get out to Catalina and dive. I have not seen a GSB yet. . .
