Anyone ever dove the "SS Palo Alto" at Seacliff State Beach just south of Santa Cruz? I know the ship has been closed to 'foot' traffic for years but are there any fines or penalties if one was to snorkel or scuba with a video cam around the old tub?

Hrm, State Park page says the beach is open for swimming but the boat is closed to the public? Doesn't say anything about swimming near the boat though.

Looks pretty cool though :) Let me know how it looks if you go! It looks like it would be pretty shallow with a sandy bottom.

That old ship has really been a part of Santa Cruz history...amazing how left to the enviroment how quickly it is being absorbed back to the sea and becoming a reef of its own and refuge to birds and seals...the only disturbance to the enviroment will be "artist" hanging flags and tarps all over it...birds don't tend to like things flapping around them in the wind...they find it "disturbing"...:shakehead:
