I just finished reading Deep Descent and was wondering what type of laws exist governing wrecks. When is a wreck considered protected and when can you go scavenging for artifacts?

I had thought that you weren't allowed to remove anything from any wrecks.

You may salvage from some wrecks, but not others. "Historically significant" wrecks are often protected from salvage.

When in doubt, ask a local operator about salvage rules and be specific about which wreck you are interested in.
