Hello,
First, I wanted to say hello. My girlfriend and I just moved back to nj from europe and wanted to do some local wreck diving. We have experience in cold water diving (we both dive in dry suits) and have some penetration experience. I'm looking for nice wrecks in the area that are preferably relatively intact so that some penetration (not too deep) can be done. I am trained for minor decompresion but my girlfriend who is not. We are interseted in wrecks in the 100' range so that we can get some decent bottom time with nitrox. Can anyone recomend some? New Jersey, NYC, and Long Island are all fine.
Thanks for your input,
Alex

There are lots of wrecks that fall into your range or close to it (110-120).
Although I am Long Island, this site has nice chart of wrecks for NJ and Long Island..

Also Long Island Divers Asssociation has list of local boats: http://www.lidaonline.com/main.htm

Hello Alex, and welcome back to the States.
First, here is a site which has many excellent references to a wide variety of diving in our area:
http://www.njscuba.net/sites/index.html
Here, you will find a clickable map which will then produce details for many of the better known wrecks in the area. You'll find everything from empty wooden hulls to fully intact artificial reefs.
Since you're looking for things to do in the 100' range, I would recommend the following:
USS Algol
Stolt Dagali
Beth Dee Bob
USS San Diego
Pinta
Also, check out the Wreck Valley website to meet some of the people who dive in this area. http://www.wreckvalley.com

Cheers,
Andrew

hmmm. maybe if i book a trip with grunzster to the stolt...
i'll get to see the arundo. (the one i seem to get blown out of.)

you really can't go wrong with what they call "the parking lot".
the stolt, algol, coney island, and others all near eachother in 130'.
the algol and coney island are artificial, upright with their decks at 100-110'.
read about them at the link andrew posted. look up shark river artificial reef.
