I posted a while ago about what rope to use for my DIY buoy, so here it is..
My goal, like most of ours, was use as much stuff I already had handy.
With the exception of the flag, 2.5" pvc and end caps, the rest was scattered in my garage.
First version had a 90 to drape the flag, but that created too much lop-sided weight, so changed the flag pole to one of my kid's arrows (don't tell her though)
I drilled the top end cap to pass the 1/2" id pipe through, and used a coupler on both sides to secure. Yeah, I am using the wrong glue, but it works and it is what I had on hand.
The main pvc body is sealed and filled with packing foam JIC of leaks. I used 1/4" steel rod bent to kind of u and v shape and secured with hose clamps to secure to main body. I clipped on a 2lb weight to it, then clipped on main line.
I picked up a reel and rope at Home Depot for $2.98 (75')
Overall hight is 54", out of water 34", flag 16" x 14"
My goal was for something big and high.
Here it is post-dive. You can't tell, but it's blowing 15-20.
I have a 2lb weitht on it, but I think it is a tad heavy (for FW)
It towed nicely, I really didn't notice much. Of course, in a lake with no current.
over all, meh, it works.
