Just bought this used. I was told it is balanced. Is it? And why does it get really hard to breath looking up? (E.G. when I was kneeling at the bottom of a 8ft deep pool and I looked up it got very very hard to breath.)

The ZRD is a balanced diaphragm (usually the UST) 1st stage with a balanced 2nd stage (with venturi lever but no cracking pressure adjustment.....unlike other Apeks 2nds it cannot be retro fitted with this knob...similar to the Scubapro 200b's relationship to the G250)

Balancing a reg has no relationship to how it behaves as you change your orientation....this is based on relative lung/reg position.

Hi, I just wanted to point out in case you weren't aware, that your regulator is not actually a Zeagle built regulator. Prior to 2000 Zeagle purchased Apeks regs that were branded Zeagle. They are excellent regs, but if you were to take it to a Zeagle retailer, he likely can't get parts. If you need it serviced, take it to an Apeks retailer and they can repair/service it with Apeks parts.

Yes it has that lever. I keep it all the way to the minus position or else it free flows. But y does it get hard to breath. I've used oceanic delta 2s and scubapro rentals and they didn't do that when I looked up

I know about the zeagle/apeks name. It seems like a good reg. My lds just serviced it before I bought it.

Edit: I also noticed it has an apex branded 1st stage that isn't sealed. I live in nj and obviously we usually have colder waters. Is there a kit I can buy to seal it so it doesn't freeze?

It looks like it is a UST first stage, which should be able to be sealed by converting it into a DST. It isnt a simple kit tho, it will require it being completely serviced again by your shop, so you'd be paying for the parts plus another first stage overhaul.
