You might not know this, but I’m a multimillionaire that started a dive shop so I could build my rebreathers in air conditioning that wasn’t my kitchen table.
I am a multithousandaire. Very similar, but also different.

Ok, thanks. But how do they just break than this early? My Petrel didn't flood, it works when I put the battery back in, it's the button that's not working.
Sounds like it just broke. Probably more in the **** happens camp than a specific issue. I haven't seen or heard of buttons failing that had not been flooded.
I have owned and dove every generation of shearwater except the teric. I think I still have at least one of every model. They are good solid computers. They break just like everything else, but at least here in NA, service is good and normally reasonably priced.
I was more just trying to help you understand why a button repair on a petrel seems stupid high priced. It is a considerable pain in the ass to replace compared to the perdix.

One thing you haven't mentioned - how old was the computer? With less than 100 dives it was already old enough to be out of warranty?
It sat for almost 2 years during rona. It shouldn't break after 100 dives if it's 3 month old or 3 years, it's hardly used. I didn't say less than, I said around 100.

I'd be really interested to hear from other European SW computer users about their service experiences. Is berndo's the exception or the rule?
If you don't wanna believe it you could just call SW and ask about the service center in the EU and what they can or can't do.

I've been following this thread... that's a long crap... have you tried more fiber? :rofl3:

(sorry, I couldn't resist...)

I eat a lot of Mexican. Lol.

Nobody thinks you’re lying. Some of us might just think that SW service didn’t go the extra mile because they didn’t like you.

Why they didn’t like you, is up to you to figure out. I have an idea, but that’s another discussion.

“Did you say ‘Abe Lincoln?’” “No, I said, ‘Hey, Blinkin’”

Huh, that's interesting. The button started not reacting to every other push and died one dive later. I took the battery out and put it back in to see if it would still switch on and it did. I didn't see any moisture in the battery compartment. I don't know but I reckon if it was flooded it wouldn't still boot up.

I bought them because I like them it just really sucks when the rebreather doesn't work and you miss out on a trip and dive weekends at the tail end of the season.

Eitherway, I did learn from this that an mCCR on which you can run different monitors has an advantage over a DiveCan unit when it come to stuff breaking.

Yeah, I reckon they closed down the EU service center 6 month before my Petrel broke to screw me over.

Sooo before this goes further off-topic, let's summarize:

Users recommending Shearwater:
At least 10

Users recommending AquaLung:
None so far

Someone wrote something about unanimity early on...

I had mine repaired at Narked@90 - not EU, But far closer than Canada - were they suggested as a repair shop, or are they discontinued as a repair-shop?
