Hi my name is Nína. I´m 22 and born and raised in Iceland. I took my Open water course a year ago in Crete and have since not stopped diving and just finished my instructor examination a few weeks ago. I currently work full time as a diver in Iceland but after the season the dream is to hopefully go explore the world with diving, warm water and buy my first wetsuit:)

In Iceland we have some gorgeous fresh water diving, the most famous place is the incredible Silfra that I guide to a lot, renowned for it´s visibility but my favorite is Bjarnagjá. You can google each of these for more info.

My coldest dive was -2 degrees in the ocean and -16 degrees air temperature. That was during my rescue course and having to play victims and all it was a very cold dive. In winter it can be very difficult doing 2 dives a day since your drysuit tends to freeze whole and you cant get in it again. But it´s definitely worth it even though I´m wanting to do easier, warm water diving now.

Hi!

Welcome to SB from all of us in the Arizona desert! Where it is a brisk 101 degrees currently!

We like going to California where the water is 68 degrees and the weather is 80! Sounds like Iceland is pretty extreme diving. Any cool creatures there?

Welcome to SB, Nina. It sounds like you have found your passion as so many of us have. Congratulations and enjoy your world travels. Now if I remember my geography classes, Iceland is the one that is actually green and beautiful and Greenland is covered with ice? Hmmm. I did have a friend, Dr. Richard C. Murphy, who spent time there diving.
