I'm just starting to look at purchasing my own equipment. I've kind of narrowed it down to these two - I like the idea of a wrist computer but also like the idea of having an air integrated computer. Any advice? Thoughts?
Thanks!
Julie

Julie,

I would always get an air integrated computer because it can do a better job of monitoring dive time remaining by monitoring both air consumption and blood gas accumulation. I have an Air; it is recently out, about 1 1/2 weeks, so support is a little behind. I have the download kit, compass, and face cover on order and the Mares Rep is not sure that the pieces are even in the US yet. Check the on cyclinder readout prior to purchasing. When the computer is on and attached to a pressureized cyclinder, it does not tell you anything - no pressure, time, date, temperature, etc. This is beginning to bug me since my other computers (Cobra and ProPlus2) both told me the pressure at a very minimum.

Julie,

Perry is right; air integrated computer is going to give you more information. At the end of the day they both are going to get the job done, keep you in the water longer. As Perry mentioned the Nemo Air is a very recently released computer. The only downside I can see at this point, is the Nemo Air download software is running a little late. We anticipated having the software to download your logged dives complete by now. We are currently working diligently to complete it and make it available to all.

I do know where our pieces are.
  • Drak interface is in stock in our U.S. warehouse
  • Compass kit is intransit from Italy we anticipate deliving to our dealers on or before 8/18/08 as was planned from the beginning
  • Nemo Wide and Nemo Air share the same glass protection system and are in stock
  • Attach 1st stage to tank, pressurize, scroll with left or right button to "dive" mode, press enter, and it will show you all the information Perry suggests
Either way Julie, they are both great, while the software may not be available today, it is imminent, thus giving the edge to Nemo Air. Hope this helps.

Best regards,

I did a test dive in the pool this weekend - I really liked the Nemo Air. The screen was so easy to read. I'm pretty sure that pressure was displayed before getting into the water though - I didn't read the manual prior to getting to the pool but I must have pushed the right button....I was also testing a new reg and BCD so didn't spend a whole lot of time playing with it. I was more concerned with can I see it underwater (tells how old I am!) :) The dive shop said that there's a wireless version coming out soon - do you know when?

Julie

Julie,

Glad you liked it. We have had great feedback regarding screen and readability of the Nemo and Nemo Air. Yes the air pressure does show if you put it in dive mode. Anyhow, to answer your question, I can't tell you then everyone would know. I can tell you, if you are serious about purchasing new equipment soon, I would not wait.

Good luck and enjoy your new sport / activity!

Best regards,

Thanks Zak, so I take it that it won't be anytime soon :)

I am looking to purchase my own equipment after testing the Abyss reg, Kaila BCD and Nemo Air yesterday - what an amazing difference over rental gear!

I just did 4 dives with my new nemo. I also had my Sherwood wisdom on the same reg. I found the nemo a little conservative even on the most liberal setting. Could we expect to download more liberal algorithms for the nemo in the future?

Zak,

Hope youdon't mind my posting but I have a Nemo Air dive computer taht I am having a time with trying to get it to link with my pc to download my dives. Is the Drak software and usb cable supposed to work with this unit? I've seen mention of the Nemo Puck and the Nemo Wide and one instance where the Nemo Air was mentioned. Any ideas?

BigFoot41,

Try heading off to the Mares location on ScubaBoard to find the thread on the Nemo Air Computer Interface; it has a long discussion on the DRAK, it's availability, and warranty registration issues for the Air. This is my 7th month with an Air and DRAK and still no support for downloads or ability to register the computer. I have 47 dives on it and this weekend it reported a decompression warning after 28 minutes at 62 fsw. Next weekend I am returning it to the LDS.
