Hot flashes underwater

I was underwater this weekend at around 100 ft. And a heat wave came over me like there was no tomorrow. It didn't last long and I had just completed and passed the narc test... so we figured I had a hot flash. (I have this regularly on top of the water.)

Has anyone experienced this while diving before? (Just checking to see if we're "diagnosing" this correctly.)

Yep - I think you are "diagnosing" it correctly. I just view it as my "personal" heater. I normally dive cold water in a dry suit so I choose to enjoy that personal heater.

Since you are in SC and probably diving warmet water, I can understand how that could be uncomfortable.

When I get one of those while diving my local quarry, I head for the thermocline.

i don't mind the hot flashes when diving in Monterey, but they were not fun in Florida!

You know, I get these now and again underwater. I never get them on land.

I have no idea why it happens as I'm usually totally cold blooded.

As a cold water diver..and someone who is just entering these uncharted waters of womanhood...I'm excited to find the up side of a hot flash...wish there was a way to get them to turn on by request and last longer (like the length of a dive)

Wow, I've never been lucky enough to have one underwater. They only happen to me when it's inconvenient.

Same here. I've been troubled by hot flashes since my hysterectomy nine years ago, but never had one under water. I've experienced them at inconvenient times such as at meetings and when trying to sleep, but never underwater, which is maybe one reason I love to be there. There are several times I've hit thermoclines when I would have welcomed a hot flash, but, alas, it never happened.

Absolutely. Had it a few times this summer. Mine thankfully are not a constant occurance (yet...). My only trouble is I get nausea as my "aura" so at first I thought I was sick and or narced - till it passed.

Interesting - a couple of weeks ago I went out for a bit of an experimental deep dive, mostly to see just exactly where my narcosis limits are (under the supervision of three instructors). At a certain depth, it hit me like a freight train, and did feel exactly like a hot flash crossed with one too many drinks where the room starts spinning. (I remember that sensation from my twenties!)

It passed in a couple of seconds, but was very intense and sudden coming on. I assumed it was all narcosis, as hot flashes aren't a regular thing for me (yet!).

Has anyone seen any research or info related to this sort of thing? I'd be interested.
