Hi all! I've been a member on this board for a while, but haven't had reason to post lately.
I'm curious if anyone knows about DIN tank availability on Roatan. This will be my first dive trip since getting certified. I purchased my gear and am excited to use it. However, I received a DIN Mares Proton She-Dives instead of Yoke. Because it had to be ordered (my local shop was out of stock), it will take several days for me to do a return/exchange for Yoke style. I've been told that DIN is better and used more often worldwide.
Does Roatan have DIN style tanks or should I order and express ship a DIN/Yoke adapter?
Thanks in advance.

Keep the DIN and get the adapter. Dont count on finding DIN tanks there however.

Yoke is common and I don't think you will readilly find din on Roatan. When are you going and where are you staying of Roatan. We will be down there in 3 1/2 weeks for 14 days.

Email your dive shop!

I didn't see many DIN tanks when I was there in 2004, but things change. I'm going back 4/26-5/3, staying at Sueno del Mar.

This is sound advice. I dive DIN exclusively and it has been my experience that "some" shops with have "some" tanks... If you happen to be there the same week as another DIN guy, you'll be arm-wrestling for them.

The adapters are cheap and a good idea anyway. DIN is more popular worldwide and in Techie circles, but not in wide use in NA or CA.

So getting an adapter seems to be the best/easiest answer. Is this something I can put on the reg myself? Do I need a diveshop to attach it?
I can return this to get a yoke style reg, but I'm afraid it won't be received in my shop until I leave for my trip. Thanks for all the great advice.

The adapter that came with my reg fits onto the yoke and has threads for the DIN connection. It is basically just a hunk of formed metal :D So you can easily do it yourself.

The nice thing about an adapter is it works anywhere they have yoke tanks, which is most places. DIN is technically superior due to the captive O-ring which is less likely to fail. DIN regulators and tanks are pretty much mandatory for technical diving, at least for "back" gas.
