Here is my question regarding the long hose...

The hose is routed from the tank, under the light canister (or the loop is tucked into the belt), across the chest to the left shoulder, and around the back of your neck to arrive at the mouth from the right side.

When the regulator is ripped from your mouth by a panicked diver (ripped not deployed), how is the hose going behind you neck not a hazard?

How *is* it a hazard? Duck your head, hose comes free. Done.

The only hazard here is the diver in a panic. Let's focus on stopping that first. Gas management and decent gear and training would go a long way...

Thanks for the preparation tip, but that wasn't in the question.

Would the hose not cause any other issues if it was ripped from your mouth unexpectedly? And by unexpectedly, I would guess the "donating" diver would be stunned for a second at the suden loss of the regulator and not duck his/her head.

no
issues like what?

Maybe if the "donating" diver was vertical and didn't duck fast enough.

Regulator hose tears free at the right post, gas jet streaming out at right angle causes rapid-velocity axial rotation, donor spins downward and drills neck-deep into sediment just as gas runs out. Don't you ever read the accidents and incidents forum?

Here is my point of view...

Once again, this is about having the primary ripped from your mouth unexpectedly.

Since it is coming from around your neck, the length of the hose is constrained by the fact that is comes from around your nec; therefore, it is a very short hose. I am picturing someone (non-team member) coming from the right blind spot, and grabbing the regulator and yanking on it.

If you are telling me that the hose will slip over your head and free up the additional length across your chest, then I'll accept that. At the moment (sitting at my desk), I don't see it as being that easy for all situations.

im never diving again.
it's too dangerous!

If somehow I didn't see all of this about to go down (unlikely), the reg gets ripped out, and I clear the hose, and pop in my secondary. We all have gas. Any other issues (dislodged mask, etc), we deal with. Done.
