Love the concept Andy...had I had the time last month, would have done one... perhaps next year.

We have a fair number of rivers formed by springs here... and some make fairly good diving, but none have white water that I know of.

We actually sneaked in to the river the night before to do the drift dive at night - that was a very cool experience!

The section we dive doesn't really have any white water or rapids at all - it's just a big river! Flow varies from about 60 cumecs (cubic meters per second) to around 250 cumecs. If you've got the flow, it be a fun dive - sounds like a great opportunity for some exploring!

That video is very excellent. Think NZ rivers are now on my list.

NZ has a lot of good diving if you don't mind cooler waters. Lermontov is high on my list of sites to dive and it is handy that it is close and cheap to visit.

Aaron, who shot the video, was gutted.... the footage from the faster sections was too shaky to use. Flow on that day was about 90 cumecs, with winter coming we'll head back down and catch it on a day where it's about 200 cumecs. Above that, it gets a bit too hairy to dive....

Happy to guide on the Waikato if you do make it here!

Warrick and Jane at ABO organise trips fairly regularly, once a year normally. Or I can let you know when our trips our - four days 'liveashore' with all fills, accommodation etc works out about NZ$800. It is a very good wreck!

I fish in the Hudson. That's as close as I want to get to Jimmy Hoffa.

I know that in Texas it's fairly common to dive the Comal River. It's about 6 feet at it's deepest, but fairly clear with the waters being a warm and toasty 65* even when it's 110* in the summer. The key thing is that it's a treasure-hunting dive from all the folks who go down the river on tubes. It's on my to-do list when I visit in the summer.

Peace,
Greg

Sas, that river dive looks nice. Funny thread this is as I have also made plans to do some river drift diving this summer.

Dave, what was that chasm thing you were in on the video?

Yea there are a few places around than run trips, I'll check out AB and a few people from my dive club went last year actually and are interested to go back. But letting me know about your trips, that would be great if you don't mind! NZ is about the only place I can drag my non diving partner to also (he likes the cold, and snowboarding ) so keen to get back soon. :)

Have fun! It's heaps of fun, wish there was a local option but we do have crazy drifts in the ocean so I guess that'll do. Freshwater is nice though, I have taken a recent liking to it :)

I am thinking of Diving the local river here to me ust to check it out. If it's to bad Ill get out but worth a shot to check it out.
