ZKY, it's not worth trying to re-seat the old poppet. The new one is not that expensive, easily available, and then seats are literally a dime/dozen if you DIY them like awap did. You just punch them the out of EPDM sheet.

There are two related issues you might think about. One is converting your 109 to balanced; to do that, instead of the duro poppet you buy the s-wing poppet and balance chamber which used to come standard in a G250 rebuild kit. Then you buy the G250 spring which is easily available for about $5. At that point your rebuilds are a bit more expensive, but my experience is that the balanced ones hold a tune better. Others may disagree. Most people agree that there's at best a subtle performance gain going to balanced, often not noticeable with a good balanced first stage.

The other issue is that when you go to the new poppet, you might find a compatibility problem between the new poppet and the old lever. There's a long thread on that somewhere in the archives. I'll take a guess that about 1/3 of the time I've had less than stellar performance with the old lever/new poppet and in each case I bought the new style lever and the problem was solved. Couv really knows a lot about this because he's rebuilt so many of these, DA and awap too.

Edit: I just saw that vintagedoublehose has the duro poppet for sale.
I remember seeing a post about the different levers and the angles where the lever takes a 90 degree turn to go into the barrel are slightly different.
I already have a 109BA that I use as my primary. This is for my octo.
Then there's also one I'm working on for another person who got a regular adjustable on ebay and I'm going through it. It looks like somebody tried to use an old poppet out of something else and the grove made by a different volcano orifice doesn't quite line up with the volcano orifice in this particular 109. The result is a hiss I can't get rid of, so it will need a brand new poppet.

ZKY, that is my auction on ebay. I have a few extras of the Duro poppet. I can send you one or two. I also have a few extra G250 kits that include the S-wing poppet if you decide to go the balanced route. No springs or balance chambers though. But I should have a solution to that problem fairly soon.

All I ask in return is you showing me a few crab diving hot spots. :eyebrow: I will be in your neck of the woods shortly after the season opens.

I was under the impression that if a lever worked with the poppet shown in the OP, it will also work with the duro poppet.

Edit: We're stepping all over each other.

Six....That's your auction? I was going to bid on it, but when I saw your statement, "Buyer agrees that this will be installed only by a qualified technician" I withdrew my bid. :D Of course, the operative word is "qualified" not "certified," so maybe I'll just make it expensive for Eric. :mooner:

Seriously Eric, I agree with Halo, convert that puppy to a BA and you'll be done with it for a long time. If not, put the Duro poppet in and use the Awap seats or the VDH parts kit. The lever issue can be problematic if you have the old style lever- the one on the right in this picture:

I don't think so. Honestly I think its a bit hit-or-miss but I would say that I have found the best overall results with the new lever, the one that has curved feet.

I'm thinking now that I might convert both 109's I'm working on to balanced adjustables.
After reading Halo's and Couv's experiences with the new duro poppet vs the old style lever it may not work as well as I would want. The levers on both of the 109's are the one on the right on Couv's picture.

OK so you're going to be visiting up here in the North Bay correct?
I'm about an hour north of the GG bridge. Whenever you get up here let me know, I'd be glad to show you the diving. I'd do it anyway parts or no parts. As for crab spots we're still looking ourselves as it's a new venture for us. But we do have hoop nets and extra kayaks. Bodega Bay is only about 45 minutes away from Santa Rosa/Rohnert Park area. The diving sucks but there are lot's of crabs.
If you want to go to the really good diving we could go up to Mendocino County, now that's world class.

I don't believe the old to new problem is just with the duro poppet. I believe the same problem can occur with the s-wing poppet in the balanced version.
