Hello everyone, I am trying to set up a new rig and saw this cool red aluminum backplates. But seems like there is only one website that has them. Has anyone tried this BP? its a little price, but looks very nice.:crafty:

Scuba diving red color aluminum backplate for BCD by xDeep

A backplate is a backplate and for all intents and purposes function the same. That is quite pricey, be warned the anodising will scratch so won't look quite like the picture for long. I would have thought you could by a cheaper AL plate and get it anodised red for cheaper? Are you setting up a travel rig?

Black or Red. Circa $90.00

Oxycheq makes powder coated colored backplates as well

yeah thats what I was thinking. I saw the hog, but couldn't find a real picture. They all seem like computer pictures. I will check oxycheq. Good point about the scratching. I thought it was solid red. but if its powder coated it will eventually come out.

I have an SS BP for one rig, but noticed it was a little overweight with my 133 steel tanks. so I was going to set up an aluminum plate and see how it goes .

You cannot get solid coloured aluminium plates. Aluminium is anodised not powder coated, in my experience anodising on plates does not hold up very well, although my DiveRite plate held up significantly better than my Hollis plate. I would imagine the scubapro al plate would hold up very well as its not coloured. I now use an AGIR al plate which is also not coloured and is still looking like new, but boy was it expensive, worth the money? No, but its only money lol. Good luck with your search.

I've got one of the red HOG ones, I use it on my travel gear. Cost like $60 on sale one day. The red does scratch away in areas of constant rubbing - where my can light sits for instance, but most of the plate is fine. Gets lots of comments on the boat.

As much as I like my gear looking new I also like some battle scars, adds character and shows that I do actually dive. I'm a bit OCD and baby my gear until the first scratch, then I get over it, relax and just enjoy the diving. The first scratch, dent, chip is always the hardest lol...
