Maybe I should drive..
I'm seeing under $600 for all June 17-July 17 departures, even after rejecting overnight and 2-stop itineraries, depending on how many nights you want to stay. For late August when I want to go, some under $600, some over - but still cheaper than from Lubbock or Amarillo.Of all the places to move to, we picked the place that ranks as #1 as the most expensive airport in the US for domestic fares! So I'm guessing that means international isn't exactly cheap either. However, we are seeing some decent (under $600) fares to Coz for next March. Guess we got spoiled a few years back when we were getting fares to Coz for under $400 out of Austin. :depressed:
Airline pricing is so odd. I recently booked a July airfare from upstate NY (Albany) to Cozumel via Atlanta for $480. If I had booked just from Atlanta to Cozumel the cost would have been $611.
There have been volumes written about pricing strategies of airlines of direct flights being more expensive versus ones with stops, just do a quick search on the internet and you'll find a bunch of info to explain it all.
Yes, I get the basic premise of how this happens. Airlines do not set their pricing by cost but rather by demand and people are willing to pay more for non-stop flights than connecting flights. However, I still sometimes find the results odd.
