Buddy, have a great time in PG! If ever you do meet up with Ethei Robrigado, for whatever reason, please say hi from me (Simon).

Cheers!:coffee:

Hi Jackson

Never been to Kota Kinabalu but heard that diving is not that great, well not great compared to the other side of Sabah (Mabul, Sipadan- as mentioned earlier).

I'm leaving on Monday to go to Puerto Galera to do my DM (hmmm... some guys on here may have something to do with my choice of place:)) they completely convinced me!!!! It seems like PG have everything there- beach, night life, good food, some fantastic dive operations- loads of them, and fantastic diving! You will have a chance to meet a lot of good divers and make great contacts (good if you are considering to work afterwards or do the IDC- as me)

We haven't decided which DC we will go with. We will go there and talk to everyone during first few days. I think that's the best way to choose and see for yourself what you think. I have been in touch with few centers and you would not believe how helpful, friendly and welcoming some of them are!!!!! They will definitely go out of their way to help with everything (accommodation, transport, courses, diving), even if you just turn up, without booking ahead. That gives you peace of mind.
The only think I would say (that's also what some dive centers told me) that the time you are planning to go (JUNE) is a start of wet season in the Phils so there may be significantly less customers, which may affect how many divemasters they need. It maybe more difficult to "work" after you complete your course. However, on the positive note quite few operations told me that they are more than happy to let their divemaster students stay on with them and help out in exchange for diving. That's of course if you impress them enough :)

Good luck with you search!

Yeah, I heard that there is nothing to do in Semporna, but I was thinking of doing mine in Kota Kinabula which is on the other side of Sabah. I'm not sure if the diving is as good on that side or not, but I was told, and from the little research I've done so far, it looks like there is quite a bit going on besides diving there but not quite as wild as PG. You ever hear anything about Kota Kinabula?

Thanks for the info by the way....

Definitely PG over KK.

Thanks a lot!!! I'm sure it will be a-m-a-z-i-n-g!!!

I have mentioned you in my emails to Ethei and he says hi to you and to sonar!!!! Sorry, forgot to mention that:///! He said he had a bad back after all the running you did with him:D:D:D We will definitely be seeing him as he works at Captain Greggs sometimes and we are meeting guys at Cpt G as soon as we arrive. They were great and super helpful in the emails!!

Yeah, we had a lot of fun running together after the day of diving, and before the beers...:cool2:

Captain Gregs is a nice outfit. Chuck the owner is a real nice guy and so is Mark Cox, who I believe is still working there. The only thing I didn,t like about Capn' gregs is the paintjob on the speedboat...:rofl3: But hey, that's their choice... :coffee:

yes, I have decided against KK, but now I hear that PG won't be that great the time of year I'm going. So now I'm thinking EAst side of Malaysia, possible the Perhentians or maybe Bali. Any thoughts on those?

Thanks for the comment.

hey j.
I would say forget the Parenthians....i 've been there in september and was not impressed at all with diving..vis was terrible every single day and nothing really exciting to see... above the water it was like a tropical paradise especially 'turtle beach'. For 10 day holidays perfect....for a longer time go some place else...

Im here in Puerto Galera at the moment and it is absolutely fantastic.. wouldn't want to be anywhere else to be honest. think about it and don't discredit it just because of the low season, there is hundreds of dive shops here so Im sure you will find what you are looking for.... I am absolutely amazed with people here and every time I go under water. PM if you need more info or have more questions re: PG.

you re there already?

awesome!

have fun! Been to the canyons yet? I recommend some fried rice at "hot shot" (or something like that) awesome local place; you can find it near the place where the jeepneys arrive..

if you wanna go out visit white beach in the weekend; much better then PG imo..

Oh, dont forget to extend your visa in time; (seriously, dont forget it)

say hi to all the fish from me; i miss them; bbq'ed or swimming..

Real DMs need to take 5 shots matador with some balot btw

yup, been to the canyons few times and every time is different!!! great!!. Also did verde island- the drop off (superb) and washing machine there was no currents though. We expected crazy dive, throwing us up, down, left, right and centre but there was none. White beach and waterfalls on my list. Doing the hash run this saturday:)))) this should be fun!.

matador and balot??? is that what's in the snorkel? I hear they have something completely gross for a snorkel test- something to look forward to!!!!

Hi all,

I'm planning to go to PG to do my DM internship next year, hopefully I can work in the diving industry in the future, too. I have few questions for you ppl...

1.I've been to Boracay,Apo, Moalboal,Dumaguette,Oslob, I think PG is more like Boracay comparing with ohter places that I have been to, am I correct?

2.Whats the best time to go there? or you can do the courses all year around?

3.Is it safe for female travellers? What do I need to be aware of as being a female DMC? If any...

Thank you in advance.

Miko
