I am looking for a destination in the South Pacific. We will be staying on land with excursions from the hotel

I have heard good things about Fiji

Thanks

Rangiroa had amazing reefs -- whether you wanted to look at small stuff, or get off into the blue for big schools of jacks, reef sharks, mantas, dolphins and rays, every dive was amazing. It is, however, remote, difficult to reach, and very expensive as a land destination. (We did our dives from a cruise ship.)

Fiji has great dive sites all right but not all are reachable from a land based destination. Even on the liveaboards, the changing weather pattern over the South Pacific can make diving very tricky. When I went on the MV Island Dancer in July 2013, we were forced to miss several dive sites due to bad weather. The local authorities can enforce restrictions at short notice, leaving the boat Captain with little choice.

My advice is that if you are thinking about going to Fiji, check the weather pattern and sea conditions for the time of the year with the local people ( eg the Dive Centre you are planning to use) rather than the web info on "best seasons".

Thanks for the suggestion. I am really interested in seeing a nice colorful soft coral reef. I have had some large animal dives but now want to see some of the most colorful reefs.
