Looks like "arrested for sudafed" is a common shakedown in Mexico if you search google. According to the list of banned substances that the Mexican consulate provided to that woman, pseudophedrine is not banned. Several folks have stated otherwise here. Do you guys have anything you can share? It sounds to me like a scam being perpetrated by the Mexican authorities...

When I start to feel down about the erosion of our rights in the USA, I read stories like this about the craziness that happens in other countries and don't feel so bad.

Psuedoephedrine is banned. You have define scammed though. Lots of against the law things can be handled by the application of cash. Doesn't mean it isn't against the law just because you get a shakedown.

I was recently talking to a Senior crew member of a US Agency ship about this same topic. Their ship is "dry" as it is a research vessel. But in the ship's safe they keep a supply of "high priced-quality" alcohol so they can bribe their way into the Panama Canal. It is common knowledge amongst the ships that use the canal that if you want to get into it within 1-2 days of arriving you "grease the wheels" otherwise you wait for weeks.

F'n Mexico, the games just never end. Leaving tomorrow morning, will tell the spouse to leave the sudafed at home.

Don't need to spend another night in a mexican jail :surrender:

I bring it with me to Cozumel to help my sinuses after several days of diving. Will just bring enough so I dont have nay to bring out with me when I leave. No problemo.

I wouldn't worry about it. Stories just like this one show up about once a year.

I usually take a few sudafed along with me on trips in case I need it. I generally use Afrin nasal spray and the neti bottle which works very well for equalization.

I have taken Psuedoephidrine with me to Mexico almost every year since 1996. Exceptions were 1 or 2 years we didn't go. I depend on it to equalize so guess I'll continue to take my chances. Come visit me if I'm arrested.

really? I take it with me all the time down there!! :-O
