Some more Info on the Sea&Sea YSD1

I recently bought a pair of YS-D1 strobes to replace my aging 110a strobes, that didn't fall in the range listed above(mine were 1040102863 and 4). They were not included in the range effected by the recall and it was well after they new of the problem (November 20th 2012). I have always had Sea...

    PNG Video

Thanks! Glad you liked it. No lights, and not necessarily shallow water. I figured out the key to good color was to constantly white balance--it is a PIA but it does make a huge difference.

    PNG Video

Unearthed some HDV tapes from a box from a few years ago, starting to edit, this is from the first tape. If memory serves me it from the StarDancer Walindi, Witu Islands and Fathers Reef area of New Britain in PNG. Shot with a Sony HDR-HC3 in a light and motion housing. Full video now posted...

Tips for the Sony HDR-HC3? Im New!

The HC3 is a very capable camera, just found some lost octo footage I shot in PNG in 2007. I did an hour long dive alone with a octopus kind of knew it would suck to edit--just didn't know what to do with it--finally biting the bullet and starting to edit the footage down some. Here is the first...

    DX-1G Shots from St. Croix

Thanks Jay! If I had brought a computer and had some time to review the pictures, I probably would have entered those as well. As for the settings on the camera--it varied but in general I used the cameras light meter as guide for exposure and always had the histogram on as a general guide. It...

    DX-1G Shots from St. Croix

Here are some shots I took with a the Sea & Sea DX-1G and YS-110 Strobe on a recent trip to St. Croix aboard the Nekton Rorqual. This was my first trip where I used the camera on full manual. I got some ok shots but it is going to take a lot more practice with manual to get the results I will be...

HC3 L&M Blue Fine Super Wide Angle Question

I just recently recieved my light and motion super wide angle lens for my Bluefin HC3, I was wondering if I need to adjust the camera setting Conv. Lens to Wide Conv. when shooting with the super wide angle lens? (there is a camera setting that you set to Wide Angle when you use a wide angle...

    More HC3 Footage

You prep the camer before the dive, once this is done you can easily get to to it during the dive, you get used to it but initially it is a pain. I'll let you know the exact sequence when I get the camera in hand later this evening.

    More HC3 Footage

Thanks Drew! Never been to that site before, I had been to Grand Cayman a couple of times before but never dove the west wall--the diving had been north wall only to that point. I must say it was the perfect day to dive that site, bright sunshine great visibility no current--it was the perfect...

    More HC3 Footage

Mostly on full auto here, hence the searching that is apparent in some of the video...I've got that worked out for the future...used the telemacro function in the garden eel shot. Very cool feature, probably should have used it in the pederson cleaning shrimp shot as well...

    More HC3 Footage

Thanks for the compliments, using combo of MWB and CC filter, found myself with some very red Horse-Eye Jacks in a few shots at the end of the dive because I didn't have anything close enough to white balance with (slate was on the boat) was able to take most of the red out in post though.

    More HC3 Footage

More HC3/L&M Bluefin HD footage, taken on one of the first dives with this setup last August in Grand Cayman. Mostly footage of divers exploring the wreck of the Doc Poulson, the majority of the dive was in depths of 50-70 fsw. Overall I am very happy with the setup having just upgraded...

How do YOU set WB? Manually/postprocess

From my understanding you can "manually white balance" just about any camera at any depth by turning it off an on--this will activate the auto white balance feature if it is set that way (just aim it at the sand after turning it on). I may be wrong but this is generally same thing that manually...

Show me your best dive video

Here is some video on a development/testing site I am working on. I don't have access to my original videos here--so I will replace these with better quality videos as soon as I get done teaching scuba class this weekend. They are quicktime streaming videos: Bahamas videos Enjoy...

    Hello From Bend Or.

I was in the Cook Islands for a glorious month back in October of 1995. I did my open water check out dives on the reefs of Aitutaki (with humpback whales) and have been diving non-stop every since. I dove with Cook Island Divers on Rarotonga and Aitutaki SCUBA on Aitutaki. I don't have any...

mac for video editing...what can I get by with?

Ok, Some considerations - to take into account. Hard Drive space and ram are going to be critical for you. If you can get a dual processor blue and white G4 I say go for it. If you can't get a dp then get a G4 minimally, then scrape and save to get a new fast (7200 rpm at least) HD and at...
