What happened to the ScubaPro Regulator Museum site?

Absolutely and well put! Good advice that certainly applies here.

What happened to the ScubaPro Regulator Museum site?

It's 11 years later and we're still waiting. This is the answer.

In pursuit of understanding the center balance poppet.

Same here. I don't mess with the switches unless I have to. That being said, they will come off and go back on if you are careful. I have some AIr 1's without the sticker and have never noticed a leak. I have Air 1 / D-Series rebuild kits and poppets, but it would be really nice to know that the...

In pursuit of understanding the center balance poppet.

Yes, the Air 1 is an amazing regulator. I began using them in the early '90's when Scubapro was selling them at 1/2 price after the introduction of the D300. I prefer the Air 1's to the D Series regulators. Air 1's breathe easier on both inhalation and exhaust, in my opinion. I have many Air 1's...

What is your favorite of all time regulator?

Without a doubt, Scubapro Pilot with Mk5 or Mk10. I don't believe a better breather has ever been made. It's nearly effortless with the Pilot valve assisted inhalation and the massive exhaust valve / diaphragm.

Collectors list of notably easy breathing second stages?

I have Pilots, Air 1's and all the D-Series SP regulators, as well as 109's, 156's and a G250. The Pilot is incomparable in my experience, though I have never used Sea Hornet or Kirby Morgan regulators. A properly set up Pilot is nearly effortless on inhalation. The Air 1 is a fabulous easy...

    J valve

I just returned from Providenciales, where I dove one of my Pilots twenty times. It is simply superb. Service parts are just o-rings. I see no reason to ever stop using it.

    ScubaPro Pilot help

Gkuzkin, You cannot use a D400 poppet in a Pilot. The internals are vastly different.

Do I NEED an adjustable 2nd stage for 95 ft diving?

I will have to try the dual first stage set up some day, John. You and I are of the same mind on the Air 1. It is a superior regulator. That's why I have a lifetime supply! I lucked into the Pilots, but I will never part with my Air 1's.

Do I NEED an adjustable 2nd stage for 95 ft diving?

I agree with John C. Ratliff's observation that the Scubapro vertical demand valve regulators are nearly impervious to the effects of current because of the reversed diaphragm design. The regulator case shields the diaphragm from the front and the diver's body shields it from behind. The Pilot...

Do I NEED an adjustable 2nd stage for 95 ft diving?

I have found an adjustable 2nd stage useful in two circumstances, 1) when on or near the surface or 2) when swimming into a current. Logically, the same could be inferred for scooter diving. The control is used to de-tune the regulator and prevent free flow. If you expect strong currents on the...

    anyone using a regulator necklace?

I still use the Scubapro lanyards that came with my 109 and Pilot. They are just the right length and have stainless steel alligator clips that have worked flawlessly for 40 years. They keep my second stage from flopping around and banging into things, or possibly getting caught on something...

Buying used, a discriminating shopper's primer

I agree with AWAP that any Scubapro D-series, Air 1 or converted Pilot (which is an Air 1 in a chrome Pilot housing) in good shape is worth having, as they are readily serviceable. The Pilot is another thing altogether. It's the best breathing regulator (by a good margin) I've ever used, but...

    Most Redundant OC SCUBA?

I have many Scubapro Pilot's and Air 1's. They certainly accommodate dual first stage supply. I also have 5 D-series regs. I'm not aware that the D-series regulators support dual supply. I haven't used anything newer than D-series regs, which are close to the Air 1 in performance, but I can't...

    Scubapro Air1 question.

I bought my first pair of Air 1's in 1991 when Scubapro was selling out their stock at 1/2 price. I got the pair for the price of one D300. My wife and I moved our 109 and 108 to octopus use and have used the Air 1's ever since. They are extremely easy breathers. They do breathe heavy and...

    Most desirable Scubapro 2nd stage?

    1) Pilot, hands down, because of the ease with which it breathes. I think it looks cool, too. 2) Air 1, because it comes close to the Pilot and is easier to maintain. 3) Any of the D-series regs, except the late model D400's because they are close to the Air 1. 4) 156 (BA) because it is...

Subjective evaluation G250V vs. D400 vs A700 vs Bal Adj.

I believe the Air 1 is surpassed by only one Scubapro regulator, the Pilot. Early D-Series through original D400 come next, with BA's close behind. I have all of these, so that's my experience. I have to say that I haven't tried an A700 or the G260.

Subjective evaluation of G250V vs. D400 vs Air1 (in Pilot case)

I have a Pilot, a number of Air 1's, several D300's, a D350 and an early D400 with the better internals (one piece all metal aspirator/metal orifice and the single flat lever, etc.). All the Air 1's breathe easier than any of the D-Series regulators, which are all about the same. The D-Series...

    Scubapro Pilot

I have a number of Air 1's as well as the Pilot. I agree with DA Aquamaster that the Air 1 is very close in terms of performance. It is also serviceable by Scubapro with D-Series annual service kits. Though the diaphragms aren't available, you'll probably never need one. The only real drawback...

    Scubapro Pilot

The Pilot is a work of art. The internals are stainless steel. It's a bit touchy in shallow water, but breathes like a dream in deeper water. I'm diving mine in Grand Cayman this week. The only thing I've dove that's close is the Air 1.
