    Diver lost in Cozumel today

The original posting had nothing to do with the DM being alerted or not. It only addressed the down currents experienced by other divers at Santa Rosa that morning. It is one possible explanation for the diver's sudden disappearance. If one diver needs to make an emergency ascent, the buddy is...

    Diver lost in Cozumel today

If you want drift diving, you go to Cozumel. If not, you go to PDC. (If you're talking Mexican Caribbean.) Yes, you can find non-drift in CZM and drift in PDC, but if you're looking for a preponderance of one, you know which to choose. Not sure what your dives were like at Tortuga, but when I...

    Diver lost in Cozumel today

Riviera Maya & Playa del Carmen are not drift dive locations. (We have taken the ferry from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel for that purpose in the past.) You should be absolutely fine there - just get a good dive shop/boat recommendation from someone you trust.

    Diver lost in Cozumel today

NEVER! That was just one dive and something unusual happened every single day I dove with them.

    Diver lost in Cozumel today

I don't think it's misleading - it's the perspective of a DM who was at Santa Rosa at the same time. It's apparently this person's opinion that with all the dramatic down currents, one could have caused the diver to not make it to the surface. Since even the diver's husband/dive buddy didn't see...

    Diver missing today? 03/28/12

The search continues until 72 hours have elapsed. (Ends tomorrow around 10 am) They can extend it, but they will most likely suspend the search and enter the "passive" stage whence they wait for the diver to appear on her own.

    Diver missing today? 03/28/12

Calculating business lost when a customer gets lost, it seems like a sound investment. I understand newbies thinking "It couldn't happen to me", but I don't understand boat captains and DMs with that attitude.

    Diver lost in Cozumel today

This happened to 3 people on two of our dives late last week. I would have freaked, but they handled it incredibly well. Two were together (instructors) - we picked them up about 45 minutes later. Our DM aborted the dive, so the rest of us got back on board until we found the pair. We then went...

    Diver missing today? 03/28/12

That's why I spelled it out - so people would weigh the value of my information given how I got it. I don't want anyone taking my story as gospel, because there's too much room for misunderstanding or (mis)interpretation. And the story I heard certainly makes the DM look less culpable, which...

    Diver missing today? 03/28/12

Yes. That's why I noted my source. I think all of us know that something similar could happen to us or someone we love, so we're trying to find out what went wrong. As I said before, yesterday afternoon, for the first time on this trip, our DM made sure everyone had a BSM - something that...

    Diver missing today? 03/28/12

More information I received today - cannot verify its accuracy, as it comes to me via an acquaintance who heard it from his friend who works for the dive operation. (Keep that in mind, as some important details differ from other stories.) The diver was a certified diver with 9 dives under her...

    Diver missing today? 03/28/12

I wouldn't assume that the current had nothing to do with it, although who's to say! The currents have been whacky. In the last week we've had to abort one dive with divers in the water, lost two of our group (very experienced - they were fine.) It only took seconds for us to lose the reef and...

A female diver has been missing since 10 am. She was a cruise ship passenger. Not sure which dive site.
