There is no universal referral program. Yes, a PADI shop would handle the certification, but only by taking you through the entire PADI course. You have already done most of that with your SSI shop. Best bet is to find an SSI shop on Maui.

Which island will you be visiting? I would suggest that you take the classroom and pool sessions in San Jose before you go to Hawaii. The classroom and pool can be done in one weekend, Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday. You would then be left with two days of diving in the ocean in Hawaii...

I have been diving Kauai for several years. I have done the local, the Napali and Niihau. I would place Kauai diving as second to Kona but better than Maui. My favorite is the Napali...both interesting structure and lots of fish. I'm glad I dove Niihau, but don't think I'll bother to do it...

The rains early in the month caused so much silt runoff that Koloa wasn't really ideal diving for the whole two weeks. Did both Sheraton Caverns and Hale O Honu with Bubbles Below. Sheraton has the more interesting topography, but Hale O Honu had more turtles. I saw as many as 10 at one time...

We will be on the south shore of Kauai for two weeks. I will be doing several boat dives, but would like to do some shore dives to hold down the costs. Koloa Landing is so near and such a great dive site, it seems a shame to not dive it. Let me know if you will be there. Thanks

On the south shore, check out Bubbles Below. Small boats and excellent dive guides and service. Perfect for a new diver.

If you want Sheraton, go on a boat. Check out Bubbles Below. Both of their boats are small and they run an excellent operation. I have been diving with them for the past 6-7 years.

Strongly suggest that you look into Bubbles Below. Small boats and personal service with incredible focus on the environment and ecology. South shore is the only way to go in the winter.

I strongly recommend WannaDive Kona for your night dive. Steve and his crew will make you and your wife comfortable and do a twilight dive first to make for an easy transition. Kona was my first night dive and I have been back for several more Manta dives. On a couple, the mantas didn't show...
