Hi guys,

The LA County folks have announced this year's cost and schedule for ADP 2008. Visit the ADP webpage for details.

From Kevin Liu, ADP 2008 Course Director (on another board):

The cost for ADP 2008 has been determined to be $450. The Los Angeles County Parks & Recreation has set the price. The LA County ADP certification is included in the cost as is NAUI SCUBA Rescue Dive, NAUI Master Diver, NAUI First Aid & CPR. If we do a DAN O2 certification, the cost will be extra.

The Catalina Express trip to Casino Point is included. The boat trip on a dive boat to Catalina Is. is included.

Send inquiries to adp2008.info@gmail.com or to tfenderson@parks.lacounty.gov

The amount of fun we have in this program is directly proportional to the number of fun people who sign up - so I hope to see some of you there this year! :)

Now THIS is a true certification course! And for that price it is a bargain.

I can't tell you how badly I wish I had a job with weekends off!! I'd be all over this course. Now I'm officially bummed.

In case the every-weekend thing is scaring people off - in my experience, it's been no big deal if students can't make every single day. Also, some days wind up getting combined/rescheduled/canceled, or are half-days.

So worth it. This class improved my beach diving skills and confidence level 100%, plus I met lots of fantastic new dive buddies. And I absolutely loved getting out there very weekend in the summer and diving!

Im going to try everything I can to do this coarse. Unfortunately im a Mailman and have to work most saturdays. Every 5th week I get a saturday off. Only if there was some way I could work my week day off in order to get those saturdays off needed.

Do anyone know what the swimming or fitness requirements are?

at least you have a job 2 wheels, i'm still laid off.:(

This is as good as recreational diver training gets. You should not miss it. This class will change your diving in ways that you just would not believe ... hell it'll change your life.

Do anyone know what the swimming or fitness requirements are?

There's a "swim test" at the first pool session, but you're not graded or anything. There's another at the end; the main point is to show people how far they've come over the summer. From memory, I think the first swim test entails: 300 yard swim, 10 minute tread, 40 foot underwater swim to retrieve a weight belt, and the usual set of skin diving and scuba skills for checkout dives.

At the end of the class, you add in a few more fancy schmancy skin diving (breathhold) and scuba skills, which you learn to do during the course.

Hope we see you there!
