The OP must be braver that I am. If I found myself alone, maybe needing to swim to the boat, with a stringer of dead or dying fish, and a bull shark nearby, I would take off my weights, tie them to the stringer, and let both head for the bottom.

But then I live in a city with lots of good fish restaurants.
