It's looking like it's just you - me and maybe funky_monk! did you get any other messages?

would love to join you but I can't make it to Cape Ann until late July or later. Please post a trip report! (and perhaps a few pix)!

I got a few "maybes" from folks who aren't on the board, but so far it looks like just the two or three of us for sure.

I may know of another person interested but nothing definite.

Sorry I'm out..... I just got back from a short vacation and I have no time for the 15th. Maybe we can plan another trip down the road, maybe a Cape Ann Charter to the wreck of the Chester Poling, or maybe the wreck of the Mars or Pinthis. These are all deep dives, 100+ fsw.

........Arduous.........

What is Cape Ann like? Can you give a description of what I can expect there? Is it like Newport area, touristy?

It's a combination of old fishing and wealthy coastal communities. Not particularly touristy, but there are several good restaurants and hotels, as well as sightseeing and whale watches.

Shell,

Cape Ann is made up (primarily) of the towns of Gloucester & Rockport, MA -- neither as big or touristy as Newport.....both unique in their own way.

Rockport is a quaint New England coastal town. There is a small downtown area right on Rockport harbor that has lots of quaint shops, galleries and restaurants. The business district is small though...just a few blocks worth of retail stuff.

Gloucester is the bigger of the 2 and is little "rougher around the edges" (more working class and less quaint). It is a working fishing port with an extensive commercial fishing fleet.

Night life in these towns is quiet...nothing like Newport. There is some tourist traffic, but again, nothing like Newport.

Cape Ann is a popular diving destination for several reasons -- many shore dive sites, ability to find a divable site regardless of wind direction, good charter boats with wrecks and other nice off shore sites close by, decent access to the water. Topography is rocky, which also makes for nicer dive sites.

Both towns are picturesque, with many big beautiful homes.
