I am a photographer who dives, rather than a diver who photographs…I got into diving in order to take pictures but I realized after one early attempt that shooting without dive skills is like trying to play hockey if you can't ice skate….so I put the camera away for 70 dives and have recently started by diving without a strobe at first, and gradually adding equipment….BTW since I feel guilty tying up a non-photographer as a buddy, I have taken to hiring a DM to dive with me…also, I never take a camera on a first dive at a new site,or in rough conditions…it seems to be working so far for me, but that is because I know my goals, know my limits and try to do successive approximations, changing one variable at a time rather than all at once……..aloha…peter
