I had an acquaintance (insta-buddy - though a very good diver whom I would buddy with again) actually earn his PADI MD card by my signing his log book after a deep/wreck dive with him. WTF is that about????? So, I qualify (at the time AOW and Rescue certified) to certify him? Wow?..... :idk:

You by no means certified him. By signing his log book, you verified the fact that he completed a dive. That dive may have been number 50 for him. That, along with being certified up to Rescue Diver and having 5 Specialties is all you need to become a Master Scuba Diver. That insta-buddy you are referring to now has to take his log book to an instructor and he verified he has met the requirements and the instructor will submit the paperwork for the MSD rating, not you. Sorry for bursting your bubble.
