Like many "fans", I find it highly irritating that less and less scifi makes it into the show, to be replaced with "hard-hitting drama". Still, we shoulder on in the hopes of seeing an occasional spacecraft or watching some snippets of dialogue in the hangar bay. I've heard that CGI for the show is prohibitively expensive, severely limiting it's implementation into episodes.

The miniseries pilot was remarkable, however. I think I've watched it like 10 times.

The hard hitting drama is what makes it so great as a sci-fi show. Sci-fi is one of the lowest rated and hardest genres to keep on tv. It's often relegated to friday nights through weekend day time tv and rarely gets primetime. Battlestar Galactica attracts/can attract an audience that is wider in demographic and therefore potentially give networks more courage to okay and budget a sci-fi show. Battlestar Galactica's superior acting and wonderfully written scripts are paving the way for more sci-fi on tv!
