Yeah you can do it. Get your shop to show you if they will. Also leak check it before you take it out for a dive so it won't ruin a dive if it doesn't seal well.

Tagerisatroll:
Use a small Wrench when you do it will help to prevent over tightening.

excellent advise. :)

Its usually closer to 1/8 turn once its hand tight , basically light pressure (one finger on wrench ) till it stops turning .

everyone gave great advise on how tight...
Just a few more pieces of info:
1. Get some silicone grease.. you can buy it at the dive shop for a buck or so... it gets spread very lightly on the o ring before attaching.
2. There will be high pressure and low pressure attachments on your First Stage. Make sure you know what goes in what.
A) Gauges and Air Integrated Computers - High pressure
B) BC Inflator, Regulator and Octo - Low Pressure/Intermediate Pressure
3) Determine the placement that you will want your gear in... This tends to be contested as to which side is right... but some things are obvious... look at what side your BCD inflightor is on.. make sure the inflator hose is set on the correct side for this... etc..

Hope that helps...

You just want to seat it so the o-ring seals and it won't unscrew. Run it home then apply just a little torque with a small wrench and the force of your wrist if that gives you a sense of the force. Once air is applied the thrust load will make it even more secure while in use. Do not equate this to tightening a tapered plumbing fitting, it's an entirely different sealing method.

Too bad you aren't in the Pittsburgh area, if you brought into our shop I would do it for you and also show you how to tighten the rest of the hoses.
As far as to what you are asking about, use 2 wrenches, and a finger or 2 on each wrench and give it a squeeze after you finger tighten it. All you have to do is snug it down, not kill it, as a 1/2 turn would do. Remember, you are playing with brass, not steel, it's easy to stress brass threads if you over tighten them, you might not strip them this time, but if you over stress them the next time, they will strip or fracture to the point of failure. Anyone can change hoses as long as they aren't a gorilla.
