Augusta GA Dive - Memorial Weekend

Two nice dives today at E. Dam, Clarks Hill/Lake Thurmond. Vis was variable between 8-10', a little less as you go through the thermoclines.
Dive one was max depth of 110' for dive time of 74 minutes. We started on the 35' ledge with the buddha and cow skull rocks, angle statue, trench, 80' wall and below to 110' (yes there is life at 110'). From there it was to the 3 big rocks (lots of fish here) and the plane (school of herring, bass and bluegills/other sunfish. Then it was to the ski boat before finishing up on the rocks. Lots of fish today.
Dive two was similiar to dive one (omitting the trench and the stuff below the 80' wall). Max depth was 84' and dive time was 51 minutes. Enjoyed diving with Ice and DaWolf from Scubaboard today along with some of the usual cast of characters.

Another great local dive today. We did the drift in the Savannah River today. Vis was great 15-20', lots of fish and the water temp was 70 degrees. 21' for 102 minutes. 5 of us enjoyed the day. We are diving N. Augusta Boat landing (Riverview Park ramp) tomorrow at 9am. It is a totally different dive as it is in the fall line of the river with boulders and sheets of rock. Freshwater eels, fish, turtles.

Hi, I've been wanting to try this dive for some time and the river conditions look perfect. Is this also a drift dive where auto transportation back up river is needed. Does everyone meet at the Riverview ramp, or someplace down river where 1/2 the cars can be left for shuttling between entry and exit? I'll check for additional info here before heading out in the morning to Riverview.

Thanks for letting us tag along. We had a great time diving the second dive with you at the lake. Sorry we didn't go on the drift dive down the river with ya, but we had some family come over for some fun on the boat and jet skis. Hope to be able to do the drift dive with ya one of these trips down.

Today our group (6) dove the N. Augusta boat landing. 110 min dive max depth 19'. This dive never fails to impress. Vis was a bit variable, but generally 8-15'. Turtles, catfish, bass,carp, and school of very large sunfish bedding. Lots of boulders, sheets of rock. A very different dive than the big drift.

is anyone into geocaching? a friend and i dove the plane on sunday the 29th (great day on the surface, vis about 10 ft, water temp in the low 70s) looking for the brick with the geocache coordinates written on it and had no luck. according the cache description, it is supposed to be under the tail section. we looked all around the tail, in the plane, on the plane, around the rest of the plane and had no luck.

anyone have any intel on this?

The brick is there (at least a couple of weeks ago). Think interior (more than 1 interior in this plane- think about it)- I'd tell you specifically, but that takes all the fun out of geocaching. Hope someone didn't remove it - I'll check next weekend. IF they did it is probably laying around the plane somewhere.

Is there a central place to go to get more info about diving in Augusta? We are in ATL, and a lot of folks go to the quary in Pelham, but frankly this sounds more interesting.
