The wife and I are planning a trip to cairns from dec21(noon) to dec25(8am) and are trying to spend as much of it underwater? We are both DMs and have no problem with depth/current/nitrox. Does anyone have any recommendations of providers? We are trying to stay away from areas that are "dived out."

Is it better to rent a car to get to the ribbon reef, then do day trips or hop on a 2-3 day charter?

Ribbon Reefs much better. Mike Ball or Spirit of Freedom are the 2 options here. Fly up one leg and motor back the other. best dive spots and great boats. Just bear inmind December is start of monsoon season. Dont do day trips asits expensive and you are also adding accomodation on top.

Both above trips are 3 or 4 day twice a week. The 4 day does same trip (Cod Hole) but the extra day goes out to the Coral Sea to do shark feed dives and offers amazing viz (30m +)
