Well, I used the VT Pro on eight dives this weekend and it performed very well. I lost the transmitter signal a couple of times, although only very briefly, but it did identify the need for a backup SPG, which I didn't have and, contrary to others advice, thought I could do without. My first port of call on Monday was the LDS, to get a backup SPG on a hose.
The VT Pro is very similar in operation to my previous computer, a Versa Pro, and as such I found it very easy to use. The display is very large and well laid out. A couple of other people had VT Pro's and also really liked them. It is really easy to use and the large array of alarms warns you well in advance of any violation, a little too early if you don't have the alarms set right.
You can easily make the VT Pro more conservative by cranking down the TLBG alarm, which steps back the no deco time on dives. I originally set it back two graph blocks, but this was way too conservative, one block back was still conservative but worked out okay. I've heard some people complain that the Versa Pro/VT Pro computers are not conservative enough, by cranking the TLBG alarm down a block or two you can make it a really conservative computer.
The only thing I don't like is the very sensitive ascent rate alarm, my Versa Pro was the same. I am generally slow and cautious in my ascent rates, and about the slowest diver out of a group of sixteen. Yet, I would get the ascent rate alarm going off on every dive and could hear other VT Pro's doing the same. My ascent rates are pretty consistent also, but there is the occasional quick jump of a couple of feet, but I'm still slower than others. The VT Pro is not supposed to log the max ascent rate unless it is maintained for 4 seconds, but it almost looks like it logs the max ascent rate regardless of time period. Either that or everyone else is just ascending way too fast and I need to be slower still.
Overall, I really liked the VT Pro, and it was a significant improvement moving from a console to wrist mounted computer. Add to that the added benefit of having the psi on your wrist and it really makes life more comfortable and easy to get all your data quickly in one glance.
