As has been mentioned before, Casino Pt. in Avalon has the best of both worlds, in my humble opinion. Some say the cost is about the same as a boat dive, and yeah, I suppose that could be true, if you squint real hard. But a 1 hour high speed ferry ride in comfortable seats, no bouncing in the waves, a choice of places to eat and relax when you get there, a whole bunch of other things to do when you're not diving, all tilt the scales towards the dive park for me. I've only been on one boat dive, but the food was, well, pretty bad. The ride there and back was about 2 hours each way, and you feel pretty packed in a small boat with so many people.

And also the boat may forget you and then they make a movie about you.

Anyway, on a scale of 1 to 10, Avalon Dive Park and beach diving are up there in the 7-8 range for me, and boat diving is in the 3-4 range. As Melvin mentioned, the exercise you get in beach diving is a good thing, and it's just nice to be in a quiet empty beach early in the morning. Even nicer is leaving Laguna in the late morning, and whizzing by the mile long line of cars trying to get into town.

Thanks for everyone's input. Sounds like everyone for the most part enjoys beach diving as much as I do. Mel hit it too, when he mentioned exercise. Since doing alot more beach dives beginning last winter, ...let's just say, I have muscles where I didn't think I had any. LOL

I have not dove Woods Cove or Peal Street. I will definitely add those to my must dos.

When I beach dive I feel like I have accomplished much more. This being said, there is nothing like a, "sitting back roll entry," on your first dive, then speeding on a four man boat to your next dive while rain is pelting your face. The truth, any dive will do!
