This thread is a couple of years old, but I'm going to revise it. First of all, for those in the Sarasota area that are interested, there are several shore/kayak diving sites that are at times good spearing. The Alhambra and Brohard blocks, The Culverts, Service Club ledge, Caperson ledges in Venice, Inshore artificial reefs and bridge @ Bird Key, Ringling bridge, Point of Rocks @ Seista Key are all easily accessible sites. I have been diving/spearing these areas with good/fair success depending on weather/tides. The viz tends to be 4-10 ft, but hunt-able for experienced divers. I generally get plenty of Flounder, White Grunts, Mangrove Snapper, Sheepheads, Hogfish and an occasional Red or Gag Grouper not to mention stone crabs when in season.

I would be happy to trade local shore/kayak diving time and experience for local boat diving trips if anyone is looking for an available local shooter to fill a share on boat trips.
