This is where experience and knowing yourself comes into play.3-Ring Octopus:If it's a dive that person has made several times and doesn't have any new distractions...then I'd buy it. If it's a completely unfamiliar dive, with a new buddy, in a new locale, with some stressors thrown in....then I don't buy it.
I keep track of my air consumption under all conditions, and I make note of them in my log. Knowing what it is under different conditions is important for gas planning. Of course it won't be exactly the same every single time, but it's usually pretty close.
