RonFrank:
Hi David,

Nice job. I like the Garibaldi's! I have to get out to CA one of these days!

So what flash system where you using? When is the best time to dive the area (vis/calm seas)?

Thanks,

i think october/early november are awesome times to dive here in SoCal.
The water is still quite warm, the storms haven't come in yet and the summer rush is starting to wear off a bit.

Also, the plankton blooms/red tide are less prevalent during these times, so the vis can be awesome.

Winter diving can be really good too, but the vis is a bit more variable.

Temps at depth are getting cooler right now (54F or so) but the shallows are still 60+

I have a DS-125 strobe. I've tried to use two strobes (I also have a DS-50), but I'm not sure I like handling such a large rig.

Fall and winter diving is nice. The water was about 60-65 degrees around Catalina. I could have skipped my hood if I had wished. Winter gives good visability, sometimes up to 75 feet, although it wasn't quite as good this time.

Come on out. SoCal Diving is something that you should do at least once. Its a very different ecosystem from anywhere else. Definitely worth a long weekend. There are plenty of SB folks that would show you around.
