Rumor has it that the Provincial Hospital in Dumaguete is looking for a hyperbaric chamber technician. It would be very nice to have an active chamber here...

The hyperbaric chamber tender/ operator course takes between 5 to 7 days depending on the number of students. To be a chamber operator/ tender you do not necessarily have to be a diver but it does help. Students should have some type of training as far as CPR, first aid etc. For just starting out the basic first aid courses are o.k. for this course however there are higher advanced medical courses that we will be offering.

Theory topics for this course will cover.

An Overview of Hyperbaric Therapy
The Physics of Gases and Oxygen Pathophysiology
Oxygen Handling and Safety Protocol
Chamber unit Specification
Roles and Duties of the Chamber Operator/Tender.

The students will get plenty of hands on experience working as a operator and also a tender. As far as the operator they will control the chambers pressurization, depressurization, ventilations, communications and keeping log of the treatment. The students will get experience using the med lock and the double entry lock.

Students will get experience working with patience. Setting up the inside of the chamber before treatment and cleaning it up after the treatment.

Once someone is certified as a Chamber Operator/ Tender this person can work towards getting there CHT ( Certified Hyperbaric Technologist). The Students needs to log 480 hours of experience working in the chamber facility. Once the students completed there experience they will be given a written exam plus examined running the chamber. A CHT certification is a highly rated chamber operator.

In the past most people thought that a hyperbaric chamber is only used for DCI. Alot has changed in the past. In the past when I have been operating a chamber 9 out of 10 treatments are HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy). This treatment is for healing wounds of patients. Example of healing wounds would be Carbon monoxide poisoning, Crush Injurym, compromised skin flaps or grafts, diabetic wounds etc. There is getting to be a big list of different things that a chamber can be used for other then just DCI.
