Where do I close it...?!

thanks

Sorry I am not home (brought daughter you butterfly world) It'll have to wait till later today for me to make any changes to this.

I found a DISABLE CHAT option in the chat settings, top right of the chat screen.
Ok, thanks. Got it. I had to select that, then close the page and come back.

I don't find a Disable Chat option on the Chat page under settings or options. I tried logging in with Firefox but it didn't help. So I've turned off all chat sounds and notifications and moved the display to "bottom sidebar" which makes it easier to ignore; but I'd like to get rid of it completely if possible.

Try scrolling down in the options.....it is a long list.....very bottom.

This should be fixed.

Did you find Settings at the top of the chat page? I had to adjust my screen with CTRL+0 first, then scroll up, then down to the bottom of those Settings. I still had sounds until I closed the tab and reopened.
