Softscrub and several brands of tooth past have always worked well for me, with ease.
 
I've never tried the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, but it sure sounds promising. I use toothpaste and the toothbrush in my save-a-dive kit which usually takes it all off easily. I also use one of those flat carpenter's pencils. Cost less than 50cents and lasts forever without falling apart.
 
Give me the one in the jar with the red lid. Plain or peanuts.
 
You can't beat the Mr Clean eraser pads they are the best! As mentioned earlier - I too carry one in a zip lock bag and in my BC pocket. My Scuba Rangers love to play with the slates and Mr Clean when we do the Seasigns activity.
 
I half expected Mrs. A to say that she uses Vegemite :)
