Does anyone know if they will have an on-site dive shop? I know the other Marriott property does but I can't figure out if this one will as well.....

We just booked our trip for the end of April at this hotel.

Yup ask for Tom....at CSS

Thanks! Not sure why it didn't cross my mind to call them since they already have a shop set up at the other location.

Will give them a call ASAP.

The Renaissance has run into so many problems and delays. They still have not received all their permits. Yes, they officially open in February, but with only partial services available. I don't think their infinity pool is finished, and their full 'beach' complete. They did have a posting a while back that they would have a public 'opening' sometime in March.

People who have made reservations with them in February have been moved to either The Marriott or Kura Hulanda Hotel without much notice. They still have much to finish and I kinda doubt that they will be completely done even by April. A few of the guests rooms are now available, the casino is open as well as some of the shops.
Just be sure you check on your reservations often.

I will take a look-see next week and see what the progress is.
BTW, I will be flying Insel Air out of Miami to Curacao - - if anyone is interested in how their service goes. They were easy to book, allows 40k of baggage, and any changes are only $30!

I sent an email to Caribbean Sea Sports last week (Friday) after the suggestion and have not had any response at all yet (now Tues). I sent a follow up email this morning. I only have a mobile phone that doesn't allow international calling so this is the only way I can contact them. A little disappointed. Hope their diving service isn't like this....

Excited to hear how the opening of the hotel went... i will keep an eye on progress

Sometimes.... when I email someone in the states, the US servers will not accept the foreign email and send it straight to junk or spam boxes. Check yours. I also got an email from someone trying to contact a boating operation. When I called I found out that he was having difficulties getting to the inquiries that were sent through his web site. He was waiting for a computer friend to help him access his site. If that's how you contacted them try to send one straight from your computer. Other than that, when it's someone's day/days off, they are off. Not to mention weekends, holidays and even some days in between. The phone numbers listed are: (011-599-9) 462-2620, 462-6953, 462-2656 and 433-7976. We use Skype to call at 2.5 cents a minute. Other than that the least expensive way to call is with a calling card from a home phone.
Have fun in April.

Kmakay - and others - just for info, pretty much the entire crew of CSS have been hit by illness recently; please don't let that put you off, they are good folks but have been running a bit short staffed recently. This might have led to some administrative delays, however the shop has been been operating as normal for dive purposes. If you don't have any luck send me a PM and I will contact the staff there on your behalf.

We (as in the shop I work for) visit there regularly and they are good friends to us, but we've had a couple of unanswered communications recently - simply because the person supposed to be answering them was not really available. We are at their place a fair bit and I hang out with some of their instuctors from time to time so feel free to pass questions through me if you're not getting a response from them for some reason.

I can assure you their dive services are top notch - they have some good people working for them.

I hope the guys and girls at CSS don't mind me posting that!

Cheers; dive safe,

C.

Whole-heartedly agree with Sunshine and Crowley: internet and phone connections down here in the Caribbean are not what you might be used to back home so do bear with them / us out here on island time and island infra-structure :cool2:

Also CSS - the dive shop that will be operating out of Renaissance - are an excellent dive operator and one with whom we, The Dive Bus, work with very closely.

If, however, you can't get the information you need from CSS (email the owner, Tom Zeck, directly at css@cura.net), The Dive Bus does service the Renaissance Hotel; just PM me if there's anything we can do to help you plan a fantastic dive vacation here on our lovely island :D

All best,
Suzy
