DIRF finally makes it to the Wild West!

There will be a DIRF class held in Santa Rosa, New Mexico November 15th, 16th and 17th. Cost of the class is $300 with any overages refunded to the student (on-the-road class cost is $275, I’m adding $25 to assure we cover instructor expenses).

http://www.fifthd.com/divestore/classes/Fundamentals.htm

A deposit of $100 will hold your spot, balance of $200 due by October 15th.

You weren't supposed to notice that! :)

The class is a go with six divers signed up. Class size is a maximum of 10, so we’ve got room for four more.

Flyers will be distributed at this weekend’s ExtaSea SCUBA show, (http://www.bigasalloutdoors.com/see/index.asp) so if you want in before it gets widely publicized, contact me this week!

Interested in learning more about DIR. In pic #1, he has the long hose routed around his neck. In pic #2, he is donating his primary and the hose is no longer around his neck...

How is that accomplished? In an OOA situation, does he "unwrap" the primary from around his head?

I am just trying to understand this part of the gear configuration.

Thx in advance,
Matthew

P.S. - I know this is :eek:ff: . I apologize and wish everyone the best of luck in the class.

Sort of makes you appreciate why DIR doesn't advocate snorkels. :) (You should also hang your backup reg around your neck before you route your primary.)

P.S. Sorry UP. This one is too far away.

One problem we have when describing the house routing is almost everyone says, "then the hose goes around the neck and into the mouth." This leads to a lot of confusion, I like to say, "the hose passes behind the neck and into the mouth" so people don't envision this hose going around and around the neck like a noose.

In a correct horizontal position, when you grab the 2nd stage hose, turn and drive the reg forward to donate, the hose comes out from behind the neck without so much as thinking about it. So there’s really no “unwrapping” to be done in this case, the hose does not make a complete revolution around the neck, so it just comes off as a side effect of the donation process.

Thanks Roak. It's a lot clearer to me now.

I've got a word document for the class up on the web now which will be the front-and-back flyer that I'm going to distribute at this weekend's SCUBA ExtaSea (http://www.bigasalloutdoors.com/see/index.asp) up in Denver.

I did a bunch of hand wringing, reading the FAQ and terms of service and did my best good faith guess as to the ethics of copying excerpts of posts into the flyer (all quotes are kudos for the DIRF class). On page two you’ll find quotes from this and other boards attributing quotes to people’s board names, not real names.

If anyone has a problem with this, please send me mail and I’ll remove your quote immediately.

You’ll find the word document here: http://www.underctek.com/open/DIRF/dirf.doc.
