Hello all,

My wife and I are looking into getting some dive insurance, we usually go on 2 or 3 dive trips a year. I have read numerous posts and other internet info on dive insurance. It looks like the two main companies are DAN and Diveassure. I've read both and understand the policies (well as much as a non insurance person can understand of their lingo). My question is how these two companies compare in terms of real life situations? Are they both reliable? Do they both answer your phone questions/concerns to your satisfaction? I guess I'm looking for your experiences with these two companies, good and bad. Thanks for your help!!

Don't know anything about Diveassure, however DAN has always performed great without hassles. IMO they are also the leaders wrt dive insurance.

I've had Dan. I went with Diveassure many years ago.. because of no depth limit coverage.
Dan may have that kind of coverage now.
Both use Duke U. for medical advice, any dive issue.
No (known) negative reports on either company.
Dan or Diveassure.. give either a call, you'll get a live person on the phone.

My wife and I both have DAN and we dive alot. I teach and she spends her summers diving in Cozumel. I have a close friend that got bent. Luckily everyone saw the signs, go on O2 and a quick trip to the doctor. A full ride in the dive chamber plus follow up visits. DAN insurance $99 for no depth limit. Trip in the chamber plus after care, $5,200. Regular insurance paid less than $500. DAN paid the rest with no problems. Sold me.

Dan......

my friend had DAN Preferred when she she had a severe medical issue happen underwater , DAN came through with hundreds of thousands of dollars without an issue

Whatever insurance you get , get the highest level, for DAN that would be the Preferred level .. for $5.83 a month (over the $35 year DAN membership) you cant hardly justify NOT having it at the level .. I know my friend is very thankful that she did, and to DAN

And without even getting their insurance, DAN is a worthwhile organization to belong to

Had a nonemergency medical question and was looking for a referral to a specialist. They got back in less than 24 hours with a Doc - love DAN.

I went with DAN. I looked at it more from the standpoint of everything DAN does. I assumed the products are fairly equal after doing a little looking then broke the tie with DAN's overall mission and support of diving safety. If my purchase of insurance from them can help just a little in supporting that mission, then that much better.

NOTE: DAN insurance is a differing origination than DAN and I do not think that it has anything to do with the regular DAN, but it does support DAN in one way, you have to be a member to get DAN insurance
