As mentioned in another thread I will be traveling to Australia in March. I will probably be driving a RV up the Gold Coast from Sydney to Cairns. I have heard that the Whitsunday Islands would be an excellent stop that has beautiful beaches and water. I was mainly wondering if we should dive or just snorkel. From what I read and hear most of the water and reefs are fairly shallow. I really enjoy snorkeling sometimes because you can have a beer during the breaks and you do not have to worry with all the equipment.

Probably a little late for this reply, but for the benefit of others, most of the good coral in the Whitsunday area is shallow enough to appreciate it by snorkelling. :)
