Hi Jazz
I just finish dm in australia. It's about 800 m snorkel swim with no hand strokes17 mins and up, 400 m swim with any stroke 12 mins and up, 20 mins treading with 2 mins hand out of water. 100 tired diver tow 2mins , and i think that's about it.

It's not fun doing it in 1.5 hours. Gd luck.

Was there gear swap underwater, navigation, laying of rope underwater for students? skills involved?

Actually, I recently asked this question, and received a slightly different set of times...(for PADI)

See

http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=67238

The ones I was given are correct for the PADI test.

I had to do this:

440 yard swim with any stroke...10 minutes or less
880 yard snorkel swim with no hand stroke....18 minutes or less

20 minute full equip. tread with hands out whole time
Full equipment ditch and recovery in zero vis
100 yard tired diver tow in 3 minutes or less

Also had to go to bottom fully suited with buddy who had no equipment whatsoever. Then had to transfer all gear to the buddy while buddy-breathing and swim 30 yards underwater while still buddy-breathing before surfacing. All of this in less than 4 minutes.

That's what I remember off the top of my head.

WOW!
Did you have to do it all in one day?

Rockie - I did mine a couple of months ago and yes all in the one day. I found the snorkel swim worst. It equated to 32 lengths of the small pool I was in and it felt like forever. Especially as I lost count of what number I was at!! You get given points (5-1) depending on your time bands and you have to get over 12 from all 4 exercises. I got a 5 for the float, 4 for tired diver and 3 for each of the swims. It sure felt good when it was over!

There is the full gear swap underwater (problem solving exercise).
There are four exercises that evaluate stamina and waterskills. There is no passing score for any single exercise but a combined score of 12 or more is required prior to certification, and all exercises must be completed prior to certification.
-400 metre/yard swim without stopping using no swimming aids and using any stroke or combination of strokes.
-15 minute tread using no aids and wearing only a swimsuit, holding hands (not arms) out of the water for the last 2 minutes.
-800 metre/yard snorkel swim. Using a mask, fins, snorkel and swimsuit only and swimming with the face in the water, swim nonstop for 800 metres/yards.
-100 metre/yard Inert Diver Tow. wearing full scuba equipment, push or tow an inert diver in full scuba at the surface 100 metres/yards nonstop without assistance.
-Rescue assessment
-20 Basic Scuba Skills Circuit (to demonstation quality)
1. Equipment assembly, adjustment, preparation, donning and disassembly.
2. Predive safety check.
3. Deep water entry.
4. Buoyancy check at surface
5. Snorkel-regulator/regulator snorkel exchange
6. Five point descent.
7. Regulator recovery and clearing.
8. Mask removal, replacement and clearing.
9. Air depletion exercise and alternate air source use stationary.
10. Freeflow regulator breathing.
11. Fin pivot.
12. Five point ascent.
13. Remove and replace weight system on the surface.
14. Controlled emergency swimming ascent.
15. Hover.
16. Underwater swim without a mask.
17. Remove and replace weight system underwater.
18. Remove and replace scuba unit underwater.
19. Remove and replace scuba unit on the surface.
20. Buddy breathing stationary and swimming (donor and receiver)

For the four stamina waterskills, the points allocations are-

Also, please note that it is NOT a PADI requirement to do the tests one after the other, or on the same day. This seems to really depend on what your instructor requires of you.
