It's an assumption based on the same name and profile details:

If you search members by "kenny lee", there is a Kenny Lee in California listed.

Kenny Lee Profile

Seems unlikely there are two divers from Irvine that both usually dive Laguna with that same name.

The SB profile states:

"Last Activity: Yesterday 01:29 PM"

That's about an hour before the diver was reported stuck.

Either way, again, deepest condolences to friends and family.

The above is speculation, but there seem to be a good many details that match. However, the original news post was dated Friday, 10 Sep 2010. Therefore, it is probably not our Kenny -- unless someone logged on as him.

Prayers for the family and the diver.

I believe that is a mistype on the date. All reports have this occurring Sunday (i.e. yesterday). See the date on the other news articles.

All I can say is refer to the site. I just post 'em.

I was there on sunday and i saw him and his buddy pass by me and my friends i was like oh cool divers didnt realize a tragedy would occur :/ i saw them take him away in the ambulance

my heart goes out to his friends and family

This isn't looking good. Our Kenny Lee lists himself as a "Structural Engineer". A tweet linked to one of the stories above says the victim worked at "LPA".

LPA is a Green Design Firm in Irvine, CA; the same place our Kenny lists as his location.

:depressed:

A ScubaBoard Staff Message...

The off topic debate about the date of the incident has been removed. The correct date appears to be Sept 12, in spite of the posting by the paper.

A passings thread for condolences has been split off to here: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/passings/352148-r-i-p-kenny-lee.html

By getting "stuck in the rock," does this mean he got wedged between rocks and couldn't be pulled free by his buddy, or does it mean he went into an opening like a cave and couldn't get back out?

Another forum had a member post:
I can see how that can happen pretty easily since I dive there often. The surge pushing into the crevices around there are a lot more dangous than they seem.

Seems like a rather dangerous dive site to me. :(

A description of the site I found: Divers Cove Beach Laguna Beach Beaches .

Based on this info and the history I think I will be avoiding this site in my dive ventures, a little too high risk for me. Heck, seems like a risky site for any type of water sports.

My he rest in peace.

I actually think Diver's Cove is probably the most benign dive in Laguna (any maybe SoCal). We were there the weekend before last so my wife could try doubles for the first time. It's shallow, an easy entry, and mostly sandy bottom.

If you do, however, get too close to the wall where Giggle Crack is, I can see it becoming dangerous. I would certainly avoid that part of the site.

Edit: Here are better links to the site in question:
