I will be spending a week in Coronado this October.
This won't be my primary dive location but I'll be there anyway.
Is the west side of Coronado worth diving?
Any of you ever dive this area?
Thanks.

The Coronado Islands(mexico) or the Strand.

Be careful - the isthmus is mined to be able to blow a hole all the way across in the event that the navy needs a second deep-water access route (at least that's what I heard).

I've been swimming off the beach at the Del and farther south - didn't look too interesting... doubt that there's any shore diving.

I have not dived there but I imagine its a sandy bottom that gently slopes into deeper water. As John Moore says it could be good and any San Diegan beach diver knows about diving on sand.

For an excellent non-commercial reference to San Diego Diving check out
John Moore's website at www.divebums.com.

Those ruins are directly on the waterline, so unless you like diving in the surf zone...

It was an old gambling ship, by the way, which grounded on the beach. For years, people found poker chips at low tide... in fact, I think people still do on rare occasion. At least that's how I hear it. Marc?
