Hi everyone,

I unexpectedly just got 3 weeks of holidays this September and I am looking for a nice diving destination. Any ideas? I was thinking Komodo but open to other ideas (I dived in Bali, Lombok, Sipadan and Bunaken in the past). September seems to be complicated in terms of weather in plenty of places.

I usually like mega fauna and warm seas (>26 degrees) and would like to avoid liveaboard (I am sea sick very easily). I already dived in Egypt this year.
No real budget, money is no object. I am based in Europe.

Many thanks!
L.

Good day to you L. Happy to assist with your plans and although we are specialist in liveaboards, we also represent several top land based resorts around the word. As you are no doubt aware - mega fauna, warm water and land based are no easy combination in September, but happy to give it a try. Probably first on the list would be Rangiroa and Fakarava in French Polynesia, Komodo, Alor or even certain spots in Raja Ampat could work, Palau maybe, and PNG would be good. Solomons and Fiji the water is cooler in September but still tropical temperatures and plenty of mega fauna. Maldives could work for land base with schooling mantas and whales sharks. Best for big stuff would be liveaboards in Galapagos, Cocos, Malpelo, Bahamas, Banda Sea, and Palau. As I am based in the South of France, I am happy to have a quick chat if you want to discuss any options. At your service. Dom

Raja Ampat. September is end of the windy season (July-August); I had very good luck with the weather few years back in September.

Raja Ampat south can still be a bit windy and agitated seas in September but middle and north can be good and several excellent island resorts.
Not much mega fauna in Caribbean in September - no spaces on Dominica Sperm Whales and Jan-Apr are the Silverbank whale season. A bit late for Isla Mujerres whale sharks. Not aware of any big stuff to be found in Caribbean September. Also Hurricane season to take into consideration. Cabo Pulmo Sea of Cortez is possible but not for extended trip. South Pacific makes most sense and just had clients at beautiful new resort in Alor which could be a winner.

Hi all,

Many thanks for all your replies. Raja Ampat was actually my first thought but I got afraid by the weather.

Alor is not mainly muck diving? Micronesia is a bit too far for 2/3 weeks flying from London.

Some whales and big stuff in Alor but beautiful place off the beaten track. Komodo would be better but last minute space maybe limited. Warm water in the north but much much cooler in the south.

Would not be my choice - these are homestays - very simple and most without electricity or running water. Fine if you are backpacking and don't expect much. Diving will probably not be as good as at professionally operated dive resorts. You can find a variety on our website but we do not offer homestays.
