Regardless of the process, it still makes E-Bay suck. If everyine is using sniping software, who wins then? The better program? How about no one!
Put in your maximum bid.

Unless someone bids over that, whether they use a sniper service or not, you will win.

Period.

If I can quote from Gone with the Wind:

"Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."

I will use whatever tools are at my disposal.

You are overestimating the intelligence of the average E-Bayer! People will pay way more than something is worth because they don't know they can get a better price elsewhere.

To quote from another movie (the tilte escapes me but it was Martin Lawrence who said it...)
"You go, BOY!"

You're complaining cause someone outbids you??

Not a complaint, I'm stating my opinion.
If I need something bad enough I am more than willing to pay as much as I feel it's worth, if some one needs it more obviously they think it's worth more. I win auctions too. It's better to sell on E-Bay because all you people use sniping programs :eyebrow:

I'm done hijacking this thread now!

The best possible scenario for Ebay and the seller is to somehow eliminate sniping programs. EBay makes it's money thru high prices, and the seller benefits in this way also. For the buyer, he/she is there for only 2 main reasons: 1. To get a bargain, or 2. To buy something that isn't available anywhere else. For those that really need/want something badly, they will "buy it now" (if available), or put in a large max bid.

For the rest of us bargain hunters, the sniping program saves us a LOT of money. Not good for EBay, or the seller. But it's not my job or concern to make either of them happy.

Overall, auto sniping keeps the price down. The real key to ebay is not get caught up in a bidding war. This is why you don't bid early. Early bidding causes the frenzy. If you are a seller, you want people to start the bidding early, not late.

eBay has gotten sucky because of too much competition and people willing to pay way more for an item just because they REALLY want it - and want it NOW!

I've witnessed people paying way more many times then if they just went to leisure pro and bought the damn thing new!

They are right - bidding early is like a boxer telegraphing his punches. As soon as people notice early bidding activity - all it does is show interest in the item AND drives the prices higher in a bidding war.

I compare eBay to casino gambling - where people love to win and many times get caught up in the rush of the 'chase' vs. paying too much - often for a medicore item.

I no longer bid early and w/o sniping. Another free software is Hammersnipe and works well. I too have a wife, family, college, and work - I can't sit in front of my PC and wait until the last 5 mins of an auction.

Right now I'm witnessing a flurry of vintage gear on eBay and since its summer these items are in high demand - which can drive prices up because divers want this stuff NOW! On the flip side - sometimes TOO many items of the same will drive values down and sellers take a beating. Its kinda like the stock market day-to-day.

I no longer even waste my time bidding on anyhting w/o sniping OR entering a bid SO exceptionally high that I CAN'T lose!
