I just read in the Sept issue of Northwest Dive News that the Edmonds Underwater Park, now renamed the Bruce Higgins Underwater Trail, is the "first underwater city park in the United States." The article indicates it was so designated in 1970.

The Casino Point Dive Park here on Catalina was designated by the City of Avalon as our underwater park back in the early 1960's. I'm not sure it was the first... there may be others before it.

That may be ... and personally, I'd rather dive Casino Point ... but I have to say that nobody's put the time, effort, and love into creating an underwater park at Casino Point that Bruce did here ... he's deserving of the honor, whatever the timeline turns out to be ...

Thanks for the clarification DrBill, I'll mention it to the city officials the next time I see them.

PS - did you see the article on Bruce Higgins and the underwater park in the latest issue of DAN?

Haven't read the latest Alert Diver, but based on what I've heard and read, I certainly agree with Bob that Bruce is deserving of the recognition.

Well, we still use US currency and pay US taxes. If we're not, I want refunds for the last 38 years!

Of course there are a number of US visitors to the island who ask if we accept US currency...
